Changes under the New Hazard Communication Standard

  • SDS: (formerly MSDS) has been redrafted to conform to a new format (pictograms, etc.)

  • Labeling – more descriptive and the use of pictograms.

Your responsibilities under the New Hazard Communication Standard 2012

  • Under the revised OSHA Hazard Communication Standard, employers must train employees on the new GHS-style label elements and SDS format by December 1, 2013.
  • Manufacturers must comply with the labeling and SDS revisions by June 1st, 2015.
  • Distributors have until December 1st, 2015 to comply.
  • Employers have until June 1st, 2016 to update alternative workplace labeling and hazard communication written plans as necessary, and provide additional employee training for newly identified physical or health hazards
